Eine Magenspiegelung (Gastroskopie) ist unter anderem angezeigt bei Sodbrennen, unklaren Schmerzen in der Magengegend- und Oberbauch, Schluckbeschwerden, Gefühl von Fremdkörper sowie bei Blutarmut und Eisenmangel. Ein Verdacht auf ein Magen- und Zwölffingerdarmgeschwür kann durch die Gastroskopie kontrolliert werden. Eine sinnvolle Prävention ist ebenso bei belasteter Familiengeschichte (Krebs) gegeben.
