General internal medicine
General medicine comprises a very wide range of medical know-how about disorders that can afflict all generations. Internal medicine or general medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Internal medicine are also called internists.
Internists are skilled in the management of patients who have undifferentiated or multi-system disease processes. Internists care for hospitalized and ambulatory patients and may play a major role in teaching and research.
Where special treatment is needed, the internist or medical specialist hands his patients over to other specialists who have the appropriate training.
